Thirty-three years ago, Joanna Seitz opened her iconic design shop J. Seitz & Co. in a vintage 5,000 square foot building in New Preston, CT overlooking New Preston falls. The shop was a wild success from the beginning, gaining accolades from editors and designers across the country. It was featured in just about every design magazine (as it continues to be) and the shop was also featured in a coffee table design book published by Rizzoli showcasing J. Seitz along with venerable New York retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale's and Henry Bendel. J. Seitz was the only independent small retailer featured.

"This was one of our biggest honors to be showcased on many pages of this beautiful book with all these other amazing notable retailers" stated Joanna Seitz.
Joanna has been credited with beginning the "lifestyle" approach to retailing in Litchfield County, where there are now many more stores embracing this approach. She was named one of "Litchfield Counties Most Influential People" in the debut publication of this annual series by Litchfield Magazine that names area notables.
Many have emulated the lifestyle formula for success that J. Seitz has enjoyed but no one is quite like J. Seitz. "It is my favorite store on Earth,” a recent client reported as they piled goodies on the counter to purchase. "They have lots of newer stores paying homage to their brilliance, but none are quite the same!"

Joanna now runs the shop with her daughter, Amanda Seitz of Washington CT, who is putting her stamp on the business. Amanda sources organic, sustainable design both locally and from abroad to make J. Seitz a treasure hunters dream.
